Invisalign® Clear Aligners

No. It is important for the aligners to be worn 20-22 hours a day as the aligner treatment plan follows this schedule. Each set is designed to accomplish precise tooth movement as per the predetermined outline.

Yes - retainers are essential to maintain your results from Invisalign. Your dentist or orthodontist will determine whether they are attached appliances on the back of your teeth or removable retainers. Without these your teeth will shift back to their original positions.

If you want to change the position of your teeth, then Invisalign is probably an option for you. Having said that, there are always options. Sometimes tradition braces might be more to your liking. At North Brisbane Dental Clinic, our dentists offer Invisalign as well as braces, so we can go through your options, give you costings for both, and then you can decide what you’d like to do.

Simply remove the aligners and brush like normal! It is advised to do so after every meal, also rinsing and cleaning your Invisalign at the same time.

The typical time frame for Invisalign is around 12 to 18 months. However, it could be longer or shorter depending on the individual case and complexity, and your compliance. During your initial consultation, your dentist or orthodontist will evaluate your teeth and chat with you through your goals and determine an estimated length.

In theory, you have the flexibility to take out your Invisalign aligners multiple times throughout the day as long as you maintain a daily wear time of approximately 20-22 hours. Nonetheless, it is advised to minimise the frequency of aligner removal to essential activities like eating and oral hygiene, aiming to keep them in place as much as possible.

The cost of Invisalign treatment varies depending on your individual case. Some mild cases cost as little as $5000, while a full comprehensive case can cost up to $9500. The level of discomfort with Invisalign varies between individuals. You may feel some initial mild to moderate soreness or pressure at the beginning of new sets. However, it typically subsides within a few days as the mouth adjusts. It is often reported that the pain is less than traditional braces.

It all depends on individual preferences, specific dental needs, and recommendation of the dentist or orthodontist. Invisalign is particularly suitable for adults seeking for a comfortable and discreet straightening solution.

No, do not ever eat with Invisalign in! Always remove them before eating as this not only allows you to enjoy your meals but also reduces the risk of damaging the aligners. Food and coloured drinks can cause staining, warping of the aligners and reduce hygiene as substances can get trapped between them. As a result, it can interfere with your treatment progress.

The advantages of Invisalign include their nearly invisible appearance, removability allowing for oral hygiene and eating convenience, highly comfortable, and fewer dental visits. It’s effective for almost all orthodontic applications and there’s not much it can’t do.

The disadvantages of Invisalign are few and far between! It’s a little more expensive than traditional metal braces, and it relies on you remembering to put the aligners straight back in after you’ve eaten. Apart from that, it’s all advantageous!

If the aligners are not worn for 20-22 hours a day, the treatments effectiveness is significantly impacted. Without the aligners consistently worn, the desired tooth movements are not able to occur which can either slow the progress, extend the treatment duration, or even require additional adjustments. Furthermore, if your aligners are out for a long period of time, your teeth may shift back to an incorrect position.

Invisalign is a modern alternative to traditional braces that aim to straighten teeth and correct various dental misalignments. Using advanced technology, the movement of your teeth are precisely mapped out into a series of customised clear and removable aligners made of smooth plastic. Each set of aligners, typically worn for 1-2 weeks, apply gentle, controlled forces to guide the teeth into their desired positions. After progressing through sets of aligners, your teeth will gradually shift into alignment according to the treatment plan.

Many of our older teen and adult patients who want to straighten their smiles would like an alternative to brackets and wires. I
