Is snoring ruining your sleep?
Many of us know the feeling of having our sleep disrupted by someone else's snoring. It's so frustrating to watch your partner sleeping soundly while they're making so much noise! If you look at it from the perspective of the person snoring, it's not much fun for them either. They will often wake with a dry mouth, sore throat, and still tired after a full night's sleep. Snoring is often a sign of sleep apnoea, a dangerous condition that not only causes snoring, but can also lead to serious health problems, including cardiovascular disease.
If you are concerned that you or your loved one has sleep apnoea, the first thing to do is see your doctor, who will probably recommend a sleep study. This will determine whether or not you have sleep apnoea, and combined with a doctor's examination, it will also diagnose the severity of the problem. Sleep apnoea can be managed in multiple ways, the most common of which are cpap machines and MAS (Mandibular Advancement Splints).
Often times, a physician will recommend cpap, only for you to find you can't sleep while wearing the mask! If this sounds like you, then please talk to your physician about MAS. Here at North Brisbane Dental Clinic, we frequently make somnomed splints for patients who cannot tolerate cpap, and the results are fantastic. Your loved one stops snoring and you get a good night's sleep!
